"Attachment Theory in Spiritual Direction"

with Jen Settle, Director of Ongoing Formation and Consecrated Virgin
ONLINE
This course explores various aspects of the theory and practice of spiritual direction. Spiritual direction is an art that allows many approaches. What is unique about spiritual direction is that it is a relationship that focuses on the one-on-one relationship of the directee with God. Our one-on-one relationship with God began and is seen in original man, in his original solitude with God and is the foundation of every other relationship. Through the wounds inflicted by sin, historical man struggles to live fully from that relationship. The relationship of vulnerability with a spiritual director or a deeply trusted friend can help us move towards our destiny as eschatological man, when that relationship is fully healed and brought to its ultimate spousal consummation with Christ. The spiritual director supports the directee in traveling a way of prayer, purification and illumination until arriving finally at transforming union with God.
Registrants for this online course, will receive access to a filmed version of our in-person 5-day Theology of the Body and Spiritual Direction course and a digital course workbook. You will receive access as soon as you purchase it, and have an entire semester (120 days) to complete the graduate level course. Registrants should plan to watch approximately 2 hours of materials per week to complete the course in the given timeframe.
Students are to complete the assigned readings before or during the course. The reading list for this course can be found in the course syllabus. For those enrolled in the Certification or the MSA Programs, completion of these readings is required. For all others, pre-reading is recommended.
The videos are from a previously recorded in-person Theology of the Body & Spiritual Direction course. You can watch them on your own schedule, but we suggest committing 1-3 hours per week in order to get through all of the material. You will not have access to the videos beyond the end date of the course.

The webinar will highlight each of the attachment styles, as well as how these styles factor into our relationship with God. We will discuss how to utilize this as both spiritual directors and directees as they relate to Pope Saint John Paul II's Adequate Anthropology.
You won't want to miss this insightful and enriching discussion! It will take place on Wednesday, July 22nd, at 8 pm ET. Instructions for accessing the live webinar can be found in your course portal.
